Local toddler busted for ordinance violation after police say he tried to share his lunch

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (FTN) – A local toddler was cited after handing food out at the kitchen table.

Police say it happened Sunday during lunchtime.

“He was trying to avoid eating his food. He was trying to pass it off to his toys,” Sheriff Woody told us.

Not so, accused toddler Alexander Essex said.

“She (Minnie Mouse) was hungry! I was simply wanting to feed the less fortunate, that shouldn’t be a crime. I finished my meal. The police are just trying to pick on me,” Essex said.

The ordinance in question was enacted after issues started to pop up when he would give his food to the dog.

“I haven’t been able to find Mickey for a day to two. She’s scared and alone…I just wanted to make sure she ate,” Essex told us.

Police say this is a policy they can’t bend on.

“It’s the law, I can’t pick and chose what I want to enforce and don’t want to enforce,” Woody said.

Essex is expected to appear at the table next for dinner.
