Toddler has meltdown when he learns food isn’t instant

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (FTN) – A Thursday morning meltdown served as a tough life lesson for a Vigo County toddler.

It happened just before noon.

That is when officials say one-year-old Alex Essex went into a mega-meltdown.

“He just started screaming. He was fine…and then screaming. Scared the crap out of me,” Alex’s father Chris said.

That meltdown allegedly started when Chris started making lunch for Alex.

“It was…you know, it was his basic lunch. Chicken tenders and tater tot. Like, he loves it. It took me a second to figure out what was going on,” Chris said.

He couldn’t wait for his food to finish cooking.

“You know, there’s prep time and then actual cook time…everybody knows food isn’t instant…well, usually. Hot food isn’t!” Chris said.

Witnesses say there didn’t appear to be any mistreatment…just a really upset, impatient kid.

By the time lunch was done about 20 minutes later, the child calmed down and ate peacefully.
