TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (KNN) – Parents say a local four-year-old has not shaken his fear of what the child calls “spikey balls.”
The test happened over the weekend when dad Chris Essex tossed a ball to his son Alex at a Vigo County store.
Spikey balls can best be described as Koosh balls, or any ball with rubbery string like material coming off of it.
Chris told us Alex has been afraid of these since he was two.
“I’m not sure why…but man, it must be deep. I tossed the ball to him as a test. He ran,” Chris told us.
Alex reportedly spent the rest of the time at the store making sure his dad wasn’t hiding one.
“I don’t want a spikey ball,” Alex told us. “Hide it in the closet.”
Chris told us he felt bad, but he did find it a little funny.
“Look, I am not going to give him too much crap for it. When I was a kid, I was scared to death of a Keith Fernandez New York Mets poster in my bedroom, I thought it was watching me…but yes. It was funny,” Chris admitted.
Chris told us he would try again in a few months, to see if Alex has changed his mind.
